Perodua Myvi was born in 2005 by Perodua. Perodua is Malaysia’s 2nd national car manufacturer which has collaborate with Toyota and Daihatsu in which Daihatsu supplies engines and transmissions to their car.
Perodua Myvi is based on the 2nd generation of Daihatsu Sirion/Boon and share the same design with Toyota Passo, and again is been used by Subaru for their 2007 Subaru Justy.
Perodua = Daihatsu is the major shareholder
Daihatsu = Toyota owns 51% of its share
Subaru = Toyota owns 8.7% of Fuji Heavy Industries (parent company of Subaru)
This helps to explain the similarity of Perodua Myvi, Daihatsu Sirion/Boon, Toyota Passo and Subaru Justy.
